About Proofenance

Proofenance is a UK fintech and compliance platform built for the art market, where identity and payment have to work together without getting in the way of the deal.

Having worked in art for over fifteen years, I have seen how relatively new KYC checks can slow and stop sales. Overly cumbersome and complicated processes put off both dealers and potential customers.

For me, the joy of selling art is in the negotiation with the customer for the piece itself, not in the admin that follows. I wanted to find a way through that clunky admin, and that drive is a core part of why Proofenance exists.

Maestra Art and why it matters to the product

I founded Maestra Art to keep working with artists and collectors in a real gallery context: fairs, private viewings, and the day-to-day of selling. That is where the friction in compliance is most visible, and it is what keeps our product decisions grounded in how the art market actually behaves, not in abstract policy diagrams alone.

I have been both building payment networks and implementing them for clients since 2019. I love seeing technology come together into a product that solves a real problem. Proofenance sits at the intersection of payments, identity, and the moment money moves, which is where things usually break for users and for compliance teams.

I also have a very personal reason to care how identity documents are stored and who can get to them. Selling our family home in the Midlands, we engageda large, well regarded legal firm to handle the conveyancing and exchange. It was a shock to be told that their third-party outsourced IT provider had been hacked, and that my father's personal KYC information, including identity and sensitive documents, had been stolen and was currently for sale on the dark web.

The response from the legal firm was to pay for a 12-month subscription to a credit monitoring service and a refusal to take any real responsibility. That experience sharpened our focus: identity data at rest is a target, and "checking the box" for compliance is not the same as protecting the person in front of you.
